The Recovery House (TRH) was founded by siblings Shaheen S. Ahmed and Khusro Karamat Elley, driven by their personal experiences caring for family members with mental illnesses in Karachi, Pakistan. Confronted with limited treatment options and societal stigma, they envisioned TRH as a haven where individuals with serious mental illnesses could live independently, work productively, and maintain their achievements as integrated members of society. TRH embodies their belief that recovery is possible and respects the dignity and worth of every individual. The program's core values emphasize a strengths-based, non-linear recovery process involving personal choice, hope, and family partnership. With support from family, friends, and mental health professionals, Shaheen and Khusro established TRH to provide comprehensive, integrated clinical, rehabilitative, and primary care services. Today, they continue to advocate for mental health and oversee TRH's operations, striving to replicate their successful model and improve outcomes for families and communities across Pakistan.
